fish & co birthday lunch

hello again! how are y'all? hope y'all had great noms today. i had spicy fried kueteow for my evening noms so i'm pretty full.. ≧﹏≦

i'm blogging again from my phone (cause i'm too lazy to turn on my laptop)..hehee = ̄ω ̄=

anyway, this update is about another birthday...my bf's ╮(╯▽╰)╭
...his bday was feb 9 but since last time we were sort of in a hurry (only had time for a burger, though it was carl's jr/from previous post) this time we had proper sit-down lunch.

i went to his house to drop off Loki, his blind tom-cat..since Paradigm Mall is pratically 2minutes away we went there instead of our usually hang out at Sunway and had lunch at Fish & Co...

we had:
★italian fish&chip rm15.95
→juicy fish with mozzarela stuffing and potato chips
★afrika fish&chips rm15.95
→juicy fish with peri-peri salsa and potato chips
★insomnia rm6.95
→coffee-based drink with vanilla and cream
★lime cola rm6.95
→coke with lemon
+10% service charge.

verdict: the fish was fresh and juicy and delicious! afrika fish peri salsa was really good but the "herbs" in italian was somewhat  missing...
service was really fast and brownie points to staffs for being really nice and polite (*^▽^*)

overall it was a really good restaurant and is worth a second visit! ★★★★

JM Bariani & Carl's Jr LOVE

hi y'all. updating on my foodscape yesterday and today from my hp..the layout is gonna be stupid and messy cause the pictures are all at the bottom..and i dont really know how to beautify it from my hp...sorry! ≧﹏≦

so yesterday i had lunch with my family at JM BARIANI, Tesco Ampang. i just got my salary so i decided to treat my mom and dad (and the rest) something special. my mom loves nasi bariani (her fave is INSAF at Jln TAR,KL) but since Tesco is the only place that is easy to go to and accessible to wheelchair, we choose to go eat there.

the food is quite nice, price is as expected from a restaurant like this...and this is what we ordered;
lamb bariani: rm15.70
beef bariani: rm13.70
fried chicken bariani: rm14.00
bariani rice only: rm4.80
iced milo: rm3.00
sirap limau/sirap ais: rm2.20
teh tarik: rm2.20
iced lime: rm2.50
sirap bandung: rm4.00
*service charge is 10%

then today i went to my bf's to pick up his blind cat cause my bf is going balik kampung...and we had lunch at Carl's Jr. i had Western Combo (rm18.00), my bf had Portobello Combo (rm24.30) and our friend had Superstar Combo (rm17.95)
alrightey then...i think that's all for now!

Grandma Paul's Red Velvet!

Sorry for the delay! I was quite busy at home to post this recipe...but since i'm free now (i'm at work!) i'll post this now! 。◕‿◕。

I have baked GRANDMA PAUL'S RED VELVET CAKE so many times i've lost count! And everytime, it is a winner both at home (my mom & dad love it so much that i've baked it for them most of the time) and at work (my friends and employees like them too).

I was asked many times why my cake is different from others, the answer is simple. PAULA DEEN. Honestly, i've had other red velvets and other people's recipes but the moment i saw Paula bake this on TV (Paula's Party on Food Network) i knew that i have to try it pronto! I love EVERYTHING PAULA DEEN. Her "Y'ALL", her SONS (oh gosh they are darn cute), her FOOD and most of all her crazy beautiful southern self!

OK. Enough about my schoolgirl fangirling obsession over Paula Deen (in which i myself think is very weird. haha) and on to the real topic, THE RECIPE! FYI:Recipe is altered from original to my average culinary knowledge.

Ingredients
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk*
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cup cake flour
1 block of butter /250gm
1 bottle red food coloring (i use STAR BRAND)
2 tablespoons cocoa (i use Van Houten)
2 cups sugar
2 eggs (A grade or atleast B)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon vinegar**

*i found buttermilk in Tesco but if you can't find it you can add one TABLESPOON VINEGAR to ONE CUP of WHOLE MILK / FRESH MILK. Low fat is a no-no! Leave this mixture for atleast 15 minute. The milk will sort of curdle and look like it has gone bad...but it's not! The milk is now ready to be used as a substitute for buttermilk.

**i use variety of vinegar, from pomegranates to dates to plain white vinegar.

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. First sift together flour and salt. Set aside.
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
In another bowl, mix cocoa and food coloring.
Add eggs one by one to butter mixture; mix well.
Add flour to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
Blend in vanilla.
In a small bowl, combine soda and vinegar and add to mixture.
Pour into three 8-inch round greased and floured pans.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until tests done.

FROSTING: PAULA DEEN used a rich cream cheese frosting with pecans and shredded coconuts for her Red Velvet, and because i'm a cheapo (i can't afford pecans..tsk.tsk), i used plain cream cheese frosting with either rainbow/choco sprinkles or mini chocochips on top. My version of plain cream cheese frosting can be found here. It's at the bottom of the post.

Red Velvets Cups & Collagen Face.

*supposed to post this yesterday but i'm posting this from home today cause the wi-fi from my office suxs...sorry!

hey there! i'm at work now but i need to update on my baking yesterday... red velvets cuppies that my friend asked cause she wants to bring back some tomorrow to her hometown segamat, johor.
usually i bake a whole cake but since she asked for cupcakes, i got 31 pieces from my usual batch! yummeh!

my red velvet cake recipe is from paula deen's and it is absolutely the best red velvet cake recipe EVER. honestly i have bought and tasted other people's RV cakes before and it's nothing close as how moist and rich and delectable as paula's. its that good!

but unfortunately i can't ice the cake the same way as paula's frosting used ingredients such as melted marshmallows, shredded coconut and chopped PECANS...and i think you know how expensive pecans are here in malaysia...tsk.tsk.. so i resulted in icing my cake with the usual plain cream cheese frosting...sigh.. but it's still perfect though..thanks for the cake itself ( ^ _ ^ )

i'll post the pictures of the ingredients and stuff down below 1st.. and maybe i'll update on the recipe soon too..(you can also searh for it at paula's website).

on another note; i'm pretty sure i haven't post anything regarding my try-out with collagen drinks before but, here it is.. i've been having nurbeautyline collagen drink for almost 4 months now and so far the most significant thing i notice is that i get sick less often..(i get runny nose and mouth ulcers quite often but since then i have been well and healthy!) and though i still get occasional small pimples (and i almost never get big bad red ones even before this), i notice slight brightening on my skin too..

i guess the "effects" on the skin takes time and different people, different outcome but i'm very happy that i'm alot more healthier on the inside too. i'm gonna keep drinking this until..i don't know..get the better one? cause i read the percentage of collagen on this one i'm taking is lower than another one i'm eyeing..but since i'm a cheapo and can't afford expensive stuff yet..i'll settle with this on for now.. ( ~_~ )

My Mom's SuperSimple Butter Cake Recipe

Here is the recipe for the weird looking sandwich-cookie chocolate cake that i made for my nephew's birthday today....it's fairly simple...and MIND YOU, I BAKE THIS NOT IN AN OVEN BUT ATOP A STOVE! HONEST, JUST LIKE MOST OF THE CAKES I BAKED AND POSTED HERE ON MY BLOG. (inside this "primitive" periuk that my mom bought decades ago.) *cause i'm poor....i don't have a decent oven for cake-baking..only a cheap one that do good on cookies.... tsk.tsk.

image from google, cause mine look waaaaaaayyy
old and used than this...hahaha

usually i bake in this for about 45min to an hour (depends on density of cake) shorter time for cuppies ofcourse! and i use toothpick or satay stick to poke the cake to see if its bake through.

ok. back to topic....the cake recipe:

FOR BUTTER CAKE:
2 cups cake flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup sugar
1 cup unsalted butter
3 medium sized eggs (4 if small)
2 teaspoon vanilla essence

FOR CHOCOLATE BUTTER CAKE:
*add this to above recipe;
2 tablespoon cocoa powder
2 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk (krimer manis)

*start with preheating your oven if you're fancy-schmancy and using a convetional oven...UNLIKE ME....... T___T
1. sift flour with baking powder, (add cocoa powder for chocolate cake or leave it out for plain cake).
2. mix dry ingredients well and set aside.
3. cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
4. add eggs one by one, beat until incorporated well.
5. add vanilla.
6. add dry mixture to wet mixture.
7. if making chocolate cake, add sweetened condensed milk afterward. (doesn't matter to me when i put this in, really...)
8. mix well.
9. pour in 8 inch cake pan.
10. bake ( IN your conventional oven OR) on top of the stove like ME! check the cake after 40 mins and poke a toothpick through it and if it comes out clean then its done!

CHOCOLATE GANACHE (top)
1 bar of dark chocolate (cooking chocolate is okay too)/ i used van houten
1/2 bar of milk chocolate/ i used cadbury
1 cup of heavy cream

1. chop up chocolates and place in microwaveable container
2. microwave for about 1 min
3. carefully stir chocolate
4. add cream and stir well until chocolate and cream is together
5. if you're using double boiling method then that's ok too

FILLING (easy cream cheese filling or frosting for any kind of cake)
1 package cream cheese (12 oz)
1 block unsalted butter (250gm)
2 cups confectioner's sugar
1 tablepoon vanilla extract

1. whip em all up!
2. there may be leftover (if used as filling like i did). it can be stored in air-tight container and in the fridge for as long as 1 month (from experience its still good). and when you need to use it again, just whip it up again..easy as that!

There you go! HAPPY BAKING!

Birthdays!

today we're celebrating my nephew's birthday.
plus his mom's birthday (26th) too.
had KFC and my homemade "huge-sandwich-cookie-like-choco-cake"...hahaha
(cake recipe will be posted later!)

look at this monstrosity!

this is my nephew! Ahmad Hasbullah Sait! He's 8 today ( ^_^ )

with his sister, Princess Alya Hasinah ( >___< )

my big-bro with his family; his lil' one-Ahmad Haslin Daniyal,
his second-Alya, his 1st-Bday Boy and wifey.

Bday boy with prezzie from me(half with my dad)
& ofcourse a lil prezzie for Alya too.......

prezzie unwrapped; mini skateboard (thundercats themed!)
& "princess" crown and jewellery.

why i got him a skateboard?
cause eversince he was in kindergarten (age 5) he had been saying he wanted a papan luncur (which literally means skateboard in Bahasa Melayu)
i think he's old enough to take risk and learn this so,...why not right? (○ε^○)

Agrotek Garden Resort

Hi!
Its already January 2013! Really can't believe how long it has been since my last post. Honestly it wasn't because I was busy or anything, mostly because I was wayyyyy too lazy AND because my camera was "missing".

See, last month, 15th to be exact, I went to this place for "kursus" with my office; Unit Kewangan, KKM to this wonderful place, Agrotek Garden Resort, Hulu Langat.

Its a gorgeous place with a nice cool river, extensive garden dining halls and cute chalets. There are activities you can do there too, like karaoke, sports and other stuff.
But to cut things short, we went for only a day, so on our way back I sort of misplaced my camera (actually I put it in my unclosed bag and it fell out while the bag was at the back of the facilitator's jeep). So I got it back yesterday, thanks to my friend Atiqah (she was kind enough to rempit with me all the way to Kota Warisan in Sepang to get it back from the facilitator).

So in conjunction of this festive event (haha!) i feel the need to update on this!

So here's a few pictures of the kursus ヾ(*⌒ヮ⌒*)ゞ

from left: Atiqah, Wani, Ain & Liza

our favorite colleague, En Rahman who is always
so kind with us and feeding us food :p

from left: Farah & Me  (*≧▽≦)

one of the many dining hall

the super cold river!

the FOOD,
bbq chicken with black pepper gravy, lamb chop,
coleslaw, fries, hotdogs and watermelon  (bbq dinner) -wani's

the FOOD,
bbq chicken with black pepper gravy, coleslaw,
bbq squid and fries (bbq dinner) -mine

after a day of on-land activities, its time for a dip in the cold water!

after dinner, picture time with the facilitators (●´∀`●)

Agrotek was A+ for calming and relaxing and gorgeous view and the food was delicious too! And trust me, there are a lot more pictures but I'm not gonna bore this place (and you!) with them anymore. I'll post them on facebook maybe... Alrightey then, that's all for this post! Until next time! ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

seoul garden paradigm mall.

oh hai.
its been long enough with no post!!!

i've been busy. really busy. i've quit kinokuniya and now with a new job at putrajaya.
but today its deepavali so its a public holiday here in kuala lumpur!
☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

anyways, i made plans with my "adik angkat" (with dad and bf joining in too) to go eat at this newly opened steamboat bbq franchise Seoul Garden (i'm sure some of you are already familiar with this restaurant) at Paradigm Mall Kelana Jaya, the oh-so-famous mall that made headlines on the internet (mainly facebook) because a "light-fixture" or "air-conditioning" or "something" fell from the ceiling at the starbucks outlet....

ok. i'm not a very good reviewer but...here's the pictures...hehe (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

ok. that's me. hehe...

tyra. she's going back to bintulu to continue her studies. reason why we're eating out here :)

anis. the "happiest" person to be bbq-ing!

the food. i got myself mostly varieties of chickens and some beef. there are tons of choices.
but we cant really take any pictures at the food aisle, so...........

always got time to cam-whore!

my dad! hehe

my cousin.

like i said...she LOVES bbq-ing!

my bf in the middle of my dad and my "adik angkat" hehe

oh my the varieties! there are atleast 4-5 types of marinated chicken, beef and seafood. basic steamboat food, like those balls and stuff...tons of fresh vegetables, white rice, coleslaw, fried food like rice and noodles, kuih, fruits, and at least 10 choices of dips and sauces. plus the free flow drinks (carbonated, ice lemon tea and hot drinks) and desserts (create-your-own ice cream sundae, ice kacang or cendol).

oh the price! its not cheap let me tell you that! my bill was rm214.60 (for 5 person + 1 senior citizen)/(including taxes/which was a whopping rm19.60) >>>mind you, free-flow drinks and the steamboat soups are priced differently.
>>>click here please for official pricing!

oh my belly! but to me its worth it if you eat like there's no tomorrow....which i did. it was hard to walk back to our car......it was hard even, to breathe right... (ノ´д`)

oh the verdict! if you don't mind spending some money, go ahead, this is a very good restaurant for a steamboat-bbq-style food. well, at least it was good when we were there (there weren't a lot of people at that time...so the service was fast and the food was a lot)

oh kay! last but not least info...we "checked-in" at 12.50 or so and "checked-out" at 2.30...we spent at least an hour and a half there to gobble up as much food as we can...and let me tell you an advice, TRY THE BLACK PEPPER BEEF AND AVOID THE COFFEE CHICKEN. haha...

is this a good review? I DONT KNOW..haha

P/S: this is my 3rd steamboat-style restaurant. my family used to go to kelana seafood, but most of the restaurants are now out of business. don't really know why...but the food there was good...
i have also tried shabu shabu twice and it was okay lah, and cheap but the variety was really so-so and the portion was little...
