fish & co birthday lunch

hello again! how are y'all? hope y'all had great noms today. i had spicy fried kueteow for my evening noms so i'm pretty full.. ≧﹏≦

i'm blogging again from my phone (cause i'm too lazy to turn on my laptop)..hehee = ̄ω ̄=

anyway, this update is about another birthday...my bf's ╮(╯▽╰)╭
...his bday was feb 9 but since last time we were sort of in a hurry (only had time for a burger, though it was carl's jr/from previous post) this time we had proper sit-down lunch.

i went to his house to drop off Loki, his blind tom-cat..since Paradigm Mall is pratically 2minutes away we went there instead of our usually hang out at Sunway and had lunch at Fish & Co...

we had:
★italian fish&chip rm15.95
→juicy fish with mozzarela stuffing and potato chips
★afrika fish&chips rm15.95
→juicy fish with peri-peri salsa and potato chips
★insomnia rm6.95
→coffee-based drink with vanilla and cream
★lime cola rm6.95
→coke with lemon
+10% service charge.

verdict: the fish was fresh and juicy and delicious! afrika fish peri salsa was really good but the "herbs" in italian was somewhat  missing...
service was really fast and brownie points to staffs for being really nice and polite (*^▽^*)

overall it was a really good restaurant and is worth a second visit! ★★★★

My Mom's SuperSimple Butter Cake Recipe

Here is the recipe for the weird looking sandwich-cookie chocolate cake that i made for my nephew's birthday today....it's fairly simple...and MIND YOU, I BAKE THIS NOT IN AN OVEN BUT ATOP A STOVE! HONEST, JUST LIKE MOST OF THE CAKES I BAKED AND POSTED HERE ON MY BLOG. (inside this "primitive" periuk that my mom bought decades ago.) *cause i'm poor....i don't have a decent oven for cake-baking..only a cheap one that do good on cookies.... tsk.tsk.

image from google, cause mine look waaaaaaayyy
old and used than this...hahaha

usually i bake in this for about 45min to an hour (depends on density of cake) shorter time for cuppies ofcourse! and i use toothpick or satay stick to poke the cake to see if its bake through.

ok. back to topic....the cake recipe:

FOR BUTTER CAKE:
2 cups cake flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup sugar
1 cup unsalted butter
3 medium sized eggs (4 if small)
2 teaspoon vanilla essence

FOR CHOCOLATE BUTTER CAKE:
*add this to above recipe;
2 tablespoon cocoa powder
2 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk (krimer manis)

*start with preheating your oven if you're fancy-schmancy and using a convetional oven...UNLIKE ME....... T___T
1. sift flour with baking powder, (add cocoa powder for chocolate cake or leave it out for plain cake).
2. mix dry ingredients well and set aside.
3. cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
4. add eggs one by one, beat until incorporated well.
5. add vanilla.
6. add dry mixture to wet mixture.
7. if making chocolate cake, add sweetened condensed milk afterward. (doesn't matter to me when i put this in, really...)
8. mix well.
9. pour in 8 inch cake pan.
10. bake ( IN your conventional oven OR) on top of the stove like ME! check the cake after 40 mins and poke a toothpick through it and if it comes out clean then its done!

CHOCOLATE GANACHE (top)
1 bar of dark chocolate (cooking chocolate is okay too)/ i used van houten
1/2 bar of milk chocolate/ i used cadbury
1 cup of heavy cream

1. chop up chocolates and place in microwaveable container
2. microwave for about 1 min
3. carefully stir chocolate
4. add cream and stir well until chocolate and cream is together
5. if you're using double boiling method then that's ok too

FILLING (easy cream cheese filling or frosting for any kind of cake)
1 package cream cheese (12 oz)
1 block unsalted butter (250gm)
2 cups confectioner's sugar
1 tablepoon vanilla extract

1. whip em all up!
2. there may be leftover (if used as filling like i did). it can be stored in air-tight container and in the fridge for as long as 1 month (from experience its still good). and when you need to use it again, just whip it up again..easy as that!

There you go! HAPPY BAKING!

Birthdays!

today we're celebrating my nephew's birthday.
plus his mom's birthday (26th) too.
had KFC and my homemade "huge-sandwich-cookie-like-choco-cake"...hahaha
(cake recipe will be posted later!)

look at this monstrosity!

this is my nephew! Ahmad Hasbullah Sait! He's 8 today ( ^_^ )

with his sister, Princess Alya Hasinah ( >___< )

my big-bro with his family; his lil' one-Ahmad Haslin Daniyal,
his second-Alya, his 1st-Bday Boy and wifey.

Bday boy with prezzie from me(half with my dad)
& ofcourse a lil prezzie for Alya too.......

prezzie unwrapped; mini skateboard (thundercats themed!)
& "princess" crown and jewellery.

why i got him a skateboard?
cause eversince he was in kindergarten (age 5) he had been saying he wanted a papan luncur (which literally means skateboard in Bahasa Melayu)
i think he's old enough to take risk and learn this so,...why not right? (○ε^○)

Bento box and brownie!

Hi! its been weeks since i blogged. I have been busy with my part time job! Who knew one could actually be very tired and busy from a part time job........if you're curious, i'm working at Kinokuniya Stationary KLCC.

I have two days off, yesterday and today.
Today my bf and me went to KL. We went from Times Sq to Low Yat, to Sg Wang and then to Lot 10, to Fahrenheit 88 to Pavilion,...
and then circled all the way back to Times Sq again... ヾ(。 ̄□ ̄)ツ

We had Shabu Shabu at Times Sq for lunch....but as alwaysss I FORGOT TO TAKE DAMN PHOTOS!!! ...mainly cause they were showing KungFu Panda 2/and then Mr.Bean Holiday...so we were too busy eating and watching it and laughing like some idiots, ignoring all the other customer........

And then while we were at Low Yat, it rained..so we sat and had snacks at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf... and talk some more about pokemons and some other shitty stuff that i'm sure other couples don't really talk about and laughing again like morons.........
Caramel Coffee & Boston Brownie ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
the brownie is absolutely delicious and heavenly!
both is about rm25.

My bf bought me a cute pink pill earphone and a cutesy bear head bento box! I'm so happy!!!
ヽ(*≧ω≦)ノ

earphone (rm10) is bought at a shop at IT centre and bento box (rm5) is bought at Hyakuland, a new japanese store much like Daiso! (both at Times Sq)

random update!: two of my four kittehs (james bond/male and snowbell/female was safely neutered on September 5. they are recovering well and as active and naughty as always... my other two females, geegee and doe will be having their appointment next month! hehehe

Samperit & Chocolate Chippy!

OH MY, i totally forgot to post the cookies recipes yesterday....
weeeeell, here it is then... (シ_ _)シ

SAMPERIT COOKIES
10 oz margarine
7 oz icing sugar
2 egg yolks
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 oz plain flour
10 oz corn flour /cornstarch
4 oz custard flour

1. Line baking tray with baking paper, set aside and heat oven.
2. Sift and mix all dry ingredients well and set aside.
3. Cream margarine and sugar, add egg yolks and vanilla extract, mix well.
4. Gradually adding dry ingredients and mix well.
5. Place in samperit mould (there two kinds, the flower one and the flat one/see picture: i used the flat one cause to me it produce a better and more scrumptious cookie than the flower one because the flat one bakes evenly and made a more crumbly cookie!)
6. Press cookie on to lined baking tray and bake for 15-20 mins / 150c oven.
7. Cool on rack before storing.

Grilled Lamb & Raya Cookies

Hi! (* ̄▽ ̄)ノ
Today mom and me made grilled lamb for berbuka. No complicated marinade, the lamb was simply rubbed with cumin and fennel seeds, salt and black pepper and some vinegar (i used pomegranate). Let it sit for two hours and grill as usual.
Served with a side of fries, veggies and classic campbell's mushroom soup.
oh sorry, i honestly forgot to take better pictures of them cause i was in the middle of baking raya cookies! the one on the right that looked like weird sausage is actually popia goreng or fried spring roll and the sauce was simply store bought black pepper sauce mixed with some mayo (my mom loves mayo!!!).

And i'm sure y'all can see the cookie in the background! Here it is....
first up is Biskut Samperit (samperit cookie) and below is Double Chocolate Chips.
Samperit is a family favorite, i swear it melts in your mouth! And who doesn't love chocolate chippy?!!

OK. i'm super tired, i promise i'll post the recipe tomorrow! (*≧m≦*)

Malaysian Malay Weddings.

Oh Hi Blog Visitors! ヽ(=^・ω・^=)丿
(that's if i have any.....tsk tsk.)

so here is something random but "somewhat" food related......hehe
WEDDINGS.
This was an old photo of my cousin's wedding. I was the "maid-of-honor" of some sort, the picture above is the banquet table for the bride and groom and their close family. Typical Malay weddings are like this, fancy banquet table for bride+groom+close family and standard tables for other guest. Malaysian Malay wedding guest invites usually are above 300 people. The food are mostly caterings these days and are consisting of specialty rice and various side dishes from lamb, beef, chicken, fish to vegetables and fruits.

The bride and groom in red traditional Malay wedding costumes. And the one wearing white baju kurung with black tudung and smiling like a goofball is me >__<"
This one is when the bride+groom posse are "berarak" (marching) from a certain distance (usually a place just further away from the guest's views) with typical Malay's kompang group in the background (a sort of group playing a musical instrument which i don't know how to explain but you can see for yourself in the next picture).

And when the bride+groom arrives, they are seated at the pelamin for all guest to see. The bride+groom usually sits there for 15 minutes to maybe an hour or so, depending if there are guest wanting to take pictures and tepung tawar (its does not translate as plain flour....but instead it means a sort of activity where guest comes and throw fragrant shreddings of flowers/rice/pandan leaves and rose water towards the bride+groom, as a sign of blessings).
There you can see the kompang group singing and hitting playing their instruments (which is called kompang). And of course, what's a wedding without cakes? This was a vanilla sponge cake with buttercream.
NO thanks to my cousin's GREAT photography skill, i didn't have any decent front view of the pelamin to show here but,,,i do have two other wedding pelamin that i took when i went to my other cousin's and neighbor's weddings.

this is my cousin's wedding. also with red+white theme.

this is my neighbor's pelamin. still with white theme, but with a hint of gold.

well, it wouldn't be fair if i post their pelamin but not the bride+groom..cute eh?
☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

ok that's it. something random and food related. hehe
WEDDINGS. i love them, especially the all you can eat FOOD.

how do you do weddings in your country?

Kerang and Mystery Drink!

Hello! Today's berbuka is kerang goreng cili or fried cockles with chilies and kerabu ceylon
(ceylon is the name of the leafy green, and kerabu is sort of like salad where the ingredients are fresh. malay's traditional kerabu is usually spicy and are made with fresh coconut.)
and the mystery drink....! there are lots of ingredients in it too!
can you guess what it is????
☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆
SIX ingredients!
1. kidney beans
2. sago pearls
3. brown sugar syrup
4. coconut milk
5. ice
6. cendol!
┗(^0^)┓┏(^0^)┛┗(^0^)┓┏(^0^)┛┗(^0^)┓┏(^0^)┛
oh ho ho...the 6th ingredient sort of gave the mystery away.....
mix it all together!
and........
yummy yummy cendol drink! yayy!
